Now open. The next chapter begins.
Located within the historic building once occupied by the ‘Imperial Hotel’, the new multi-dimensional venue includes all-day-dining, café facilities and a range of lifestyle workshop classes, celebrations and meetings.
Since purchasing the iconic Clifton property, Shellharbour Workers’ Club Ltd has remained committed to giving the abandoned building a new life as an on-trend food and beverage venue, whilst retaining the historical features of the building.
CEO of Shellharbour Workers Club Ltd, Debbie Cosmos, said the historic restoration was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“We’ve breathed new life into a historic Illawarra building and I couldn’t be prouder of the result. The venue will offer a bespoke hospitality experience that is unlike anything the Illawarra has seen and it’s finally time for the community to make some new memories within the walls of the iconic building.”
“The Imperial at Clifton has so much to offer - historical significance, incredible views and a unique business model; we are so excited to have opened our doors to locals and tourists alike”
Debbie Cosmos said interest in the venue had been higher than anticipated.
“We have been overwhelmed by not only the support of the locals but by the Illawarra community in general and want to thank everyone for their patience as we put the final touches on what was an epic historic restoration.”
“We are incredibly grateful for the support and without it, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve such an amazing result.”
In an effort to acknowledge the historical significance of the building, construction works have seen the restoration of a number of unique heritage features. The original front verandah, timber staircase, decorative arches and five original fireplaces have been restored to their original glory.
“For me, the historic story of the venue and Clifton has always been at the forefront. Yes, we’ve opened a new venue but we wanted to ensure we paid homage to the years of historical significance within the building.”
“There are historical interpretations everywhere you look – the original bar tile is a real feature, materials found on site have been repurposed in our venue signage and we’ve also paid homage to all the previous licensees – the venue is truly unique and I cannot wait to welcome our future guests.”
