The Shellharbour Club recommends the following advice for prospective employees intending to apply for a position:

Read the Job Advertisement:

• Make sure you have read all the information regarding the position before you apply to ensure the role is suitable.

Research information about The Shellharbour Club:

• Do some research about the Club so you are aware of the facilities and services we provide.

Check your Cover Letter and Resume:

• Check that your resume is up-to-date and that your current/former employer is listed on your resume.

Referees:

• Ensure two work-related referees are listed on your resume including their full names and up-to-date contact details. Your referees should ideally be previous Managers or Supervisors and should be informed that you’re actively seeking employment.

Types of Questions

All interviews will contain behavioural based questions that will ask the candidate specifically how they have may have handled or faced a previous situation, task, challenge or about specific procedures. The Selection Panel are primarily interested in the "behaviours" the candidate exhibited when trying to get through the specific situation or task and what the outcomes/learnings were. Essentially in the candidate’s responses, the selection panel are interested in the Situation, Action and Result/Outcome.

A sample behavioural question a candidate may be asked, "Please provide an example of when you have delivered a high standard of customer service?"

Therefore, when preparing for an interview it is important to think of different scenarios that you can use if posed with one of these types of questions.

Interview Tips and Hints

• Manage your time and aim to arrive 15 minutes prior to the commencement of your scheduled interview.
• Be sure to research our website before attending an interview to ensure you have a thorough understanding of the services and facilities our Club provides.
• Be sure to review the positon description for the role to ensure you have an understanding of the key responsibilities, duties and the purpose of the role in achieving our mission, vison and values.
• Prepare some general questions - we are happy to answer any questions you may have about our Club, and it also demonstrates that you have an interest in our venue.
• First impressions count - make sure you dress appropriately and are well groomed for your interview. Professional clothes and dress shoes (closed toe, no sneakers or trainers) are deemed suitable dress attire.
• Don't forget to pack your smile and be positive - the interview gives us the opportunity to meet you and learn more about you, so just relax and you will do great.
• During the interview, firm handshake if you feel comfortable, warm smile, LISTEN TO the QUESTIONS ASKED to ensure you answer them accurately, pause if necessary and if unsure - ask if your answer was sufficient.
• Be professional in your approach and give good eye contact to all present.
• Recap at the end, showing you have listened about the duties required, what your skills are and what you can bring to our company.
